“Halsted Market Days” is finally here, and to celebrate the start of this iconic Lakeview event we are rolling out the rainbow carpet with a lineup of four superb wines for you to taste. Our very own Van Isaacson and Matt Gordon will be playing live.
I’ll start with a Pago Cativo o Forte, a white blend of grapes indigenous to Spain’s Ribeiro region: Treixadura, Albariño, Godello, Torrontes, and Caiño Blanco. This wine displays a fresh, golden glow, fruity scents, notes of fennel and laurel, and hints of citrus. Pairs beautifully with fish, seafood, appetizers, rice dishes and Asian food. Drinking it is loving it!!
Next, we jump to Patagonia, a rugged region in the southernmost part of Argentina to taste a truly unique, local Chardonnay: Verum. This lovely Chard has flavors of sliced apple, mango, hazelnut and a full-bodied, creamy texture. If you thought Argentinean wines were all about Malbec and Torrontes come in and check out this Chard..you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
My first red is is a Muriel Reserva Tempranillo from Spain’s renowned Rioja region. Flavors of strawberry and raspberry mingle with vanilla and spice in this delicious red. Velvety on the palate, the Muriel has a long, elegant finish. Pairs with Spanish, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines. Excellent value for a fine Rioja red!
Last but not lreast is a wine I am excited to have in the lineup this Friday. OTHERS is a new release from Dave Phinney (best known for his Orin Swift Napa blends). A superb blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, this red shows aromas of licorice, spring flowers and vanilla, along with deep flavors of blackberry, pepper and spice. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste a true gem!

You are invited to ride the summer wine wave with us this Friday as we uncork bottles of four outstanding wines for you to toast and taste. The lineup includes party bubbles, crisp summer whites and two lush reds. Rob J will be on the keyboard filling the house with his great sounds.
My first pour is a Cavicchioli 1928 Extra Dry Prosecco, a crisp and refreshing Italian sparkling perfect to pop at your next summer party. This bubbly is fresh and balanced with hints of candied fruit, honey, apples and melon. Definitely a cut above most in taste and quality, not to mention the beautiful bottle!
Next is a Sella & Mosca Vermentino from the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. This medium white offers intense notes of citrus, flowers and dried leaves. It is crisp and dry with balanced acidity and freshness. Pairs with fish, seafood pasta, salads and light Asian.
4 Monos, a Spanish Garnacha (Grenache) from the Madrid region is my first red. This red is on the dry side and shows touches of ripe black fruit, raspberry and jams. It has good acidity and medium tannins, mineral undertones and a smoked finished. Pairs with meat, rice dishes, tapas, Latin and middle-eastern cuisine. Excellent!
The Riddler, a top-rated Stratton Lummis Lot 6 Napa blend is my second red. Dark fruit, cherries and cassis dominate this silky and smooth blend of Petit Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Tempranillo Charbono, Zinfandel and Petite Verdot. The Riddler is full-bodied, complex, deep in color and VERY tasty. Pairs with steak, BBQ, roasts and robust dishes. Great value for a truly awesome red!

Refreshing, tasty, food and patio-friendly are some of the words that came to mind when I put together this Friday’s lineup. I ended up selecting two whites and two reds that you’ll just want to uncork, sip and enjoy all summer long. The very talented David Wycoco plays live.
My first pour is a Hofstatter Pinot Grigio from Italy’s acclaimed Trentino-Alto Adige region. On the higher end of its category, this classic white has aromas of citrus, peach, honeydew and pear. Medium bodied, with a fruity acidity on the finish, the Hofstatter pairs well with pasta, appetizers and fish. NEW
Next is an URLAR Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand’s Wairarapa Valley (Northern Island). This delicious Sauv Blanc delivers zesty gooseberry and lime flavors with a hint of passion fruit. Ripe, aromatic and refreshing, the URLAR is perfect with grilled fish, Poke, ramen and salads with goat or feta cheese.
My first red is a Xavier Clua Illusio Terra Alta red, a full-bodied Grenache from Catalonia, one of Spain’s oldest wine producing regions. This tasty red has notes of red fruit and spice, mature tannins and fresh acidity. Great with Mediterranean food, paella, tapas, Mexican and French. NEW
Last but not least is L’Arjole, a Merlot-Cabermet Sauvignon blend from the Languedoc region in the south of France. Dark and dense, this blend has a full-bodied structure dominated by notes of red berry and vanilla. Enjoy it with steak, burgers, chicken, brats and blue cheese. Delicious! NEW
This Friday I’ll be pouring a selection of four outstanding summer-friendly wines and you are invited to taste them.. The lineup includes a thirst-quenching dry rose, a new white Tuscan blend and two delicious South American reds. Soundscape pianist Kevin Koprowski will be playing live.
I’ll start with a dry, crisp 2016 Hecht & Bannier Rose from Province, France. This Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah blend displays notes of Clementine, pink grapefruit, raspberry and ripe currants. Sophisticated yet rustic in style, this rose is perfect to sip on a hot summer night with a friend…or a lover!
Next is our new Tuscan white blend Il Ghizzano Bianco. Made with the Vermentino, Trebbiano and Malvasia, grapes, this lovely white delivers a crisp, fruity drinking experience with notes of grapefruit, green apple, almond and lemon. Enjoy it with tomato based pasta, chicken, grilled fish or on its own. A summer favorite!
A MAX Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile’s iconic Aconcagua Valley is my first red.. This wine has concentrated flavors of plums, raspberries and blackberries, along with spice and toasted notes. Whether you are roasting, grilling, searing or sautéing the MAX is “the one”!
Our last is an “Aruma” malbec from Argentina’s famed Mendoza wine region. This magnificent red will dazzle your senses with its aromas of blackberry, violet, spice and a mineral earthiness. Lots of ripe fruit, complex and smooth- the ultimate Argentinean steak wine!

Summer and wine make a great pairing, from refreshing roses to crisp whites and lighter reds, there is always a prefect one for every occasion. This Friday I’ll be pouring four great summer wines, including two from one of the hottest wine producing regions (and vacation spots) in the Mediterranean. Our very own Ian Rottner will be playing live.
I’ll start with the “Arrubieddu” a unique, small production Rose from the island of Sardinia (Italy). Made with the indigenous Monica grape, this aromatic rose has a dark garnet with hints of red fruit and a ripe, bright texture. Pairs beautifully with pizza and any dish with tomato-based sauces.
Next is a Russian River Valley (California) “Hana” Sauvignon Blanc, a superb white with aromas of fig, guava and nectarine, flavors of lemon and grapefruit and a hint of ginger. The Hana has medium acidity and a balanced, smooth finish. Great with appetizers, fish, grilled chicken and salads.
San Bernardino” - my first red - is also from Sardinia and a great example of the versatility of the Monica grape. This pinot-noir like red is packed with flavors of blackberry delivered in a dry, mellow style perfect for this time of the year. A perfect match with roasted red meats, burgers, grilled tuna and salty cheeses.
My second red is a "Toad Hollow” Merlot from Sonoma County, California. This full-bodied red has aromas of blueberry, a plush texture and a dark fruit palate finished with a pop of pomegranate and cranberry fruit. Great with BBQ ribs or chicken, brats and anything off the grill, Outstanding!!!

Our tasting lineup for this “Wine Friday” features four summer-perfect wines specially selected to set the stage for another fabulous July weekend in our beautiful city and you are invited to taste them all. Our new guest musician, the talented David Wycoco, will be playing live.
I'll roll out the lineup with a Brut Burckel Jung Cremant d'Alsace Rose made with 100% Pinot Noir. This refreshing French bubbly has aromas of red berries and flowers, a dry, crisp, elegant texture, and lots of thin bubbles. Pink perfection!
Next is a Reserve Mont-Redon Cotes du Rhone white blend of Roussane and Viognier. This medium white is fruity yet dry with flavors and aromas of honeysuckle and citrus. Great with grilled fish, chicken, seafood and goat cheeses.
My first red is a Bouchard Pere & Fils Burgundy (Pinot Noir), a smooth and supple classic French red with flavors of cherry, raspberry, currant and a medium tannic structure. This light wine pairs with chicken, turkey burgers, grilled chops and creamy cheeses.
Last is a delicious red blend from Priorat, Spain’s most prestigious wine region: Bluegray. This full red is full of ripe black fruit and cherry flavors, spicy notes, balanced tannins. Perfect with tapas, beef, paella and Latin cuisine. Highly recommended!
We are kicking off this extended July 4th weekend with a dazzling “bubbles and red” wine lineup and you are invited to taste them all. Van Isaacson and Tim Gordon will be playing live.
My first pour is a “Lusvardi” sparkling rose, a bright, crisp bubbly with flavors of berries and green apples, all delivered in a fruity, yet dry style. Perfect for summer parties, with appetizers, shellfish and vegetable dishes.
Next is my favorite Prosecco: “Villa Griffo Extra Dry”, an Italian sparkling that is all about having a good time. This bubbly is fresh and balanced with hints of acacia flowers, honey, apples and melon. Definitely a cut above most in taste and quality, not to mention the beautiful bottle!
My first red is a Pipoli Aglianico del Vulture, a silky, smooth, earthy red from central Italy’s volcanic area. This full-bodied wine has flavors of mulberry, mocha and herbs. Great with Italian, Spanish, Latin and Middle Eastern cuisine.
My last pour is “The Equalizer” a red blend from Sonoma County’s Ammunition winery . This delicious, full-bodied red has notes of blackberry, black cherry, baking spice and vanilla. A perfect match with skirt steak, carne asada and any type of grilled meat.

We’ll start with a superb "Château la Genestière" from Tavel, France's only appellation dedicated to producing exclusively rose wines. This refreshing, off-dry rose will dazzle your palate with flavors and aromas of raspberry, strawberry, rhubarb, and minerals. Great with salads, soft cheeses, charcuterie and more.
Next is a Louis Latour Montagny Premier Cru “La Grande Roche” white Burgundy, a truly outstanding "Chardonnay" from one of Frances’s most revered wine houses (since 1797). This classic white reveals floral aromas of acacia and honeysuckle and notes of almonds and apricot on the palate. Extremely food friendly and a great value!
My first red is a "Bodegas Tridente Tempranillo" from Spain’s Castilla y Leon appellation. This bright, young red has concentrated flavors of ripe red fruit, spice and chocolate, all wrapped in a long, elegant finish. Perfect with Spanish, Latin and Mediterranean cuisines.
Last but not least is a 2014 "Hauner Hiera Rosso", a distinctive blend made with indigenous Sicilian grapes in an earthy, spicy style that you’ll fall in love with. This full-bodied red has a deep ruby color, intense flavors of blackberries, blueberries and a memorable finish. Great with pasta, pizza, grilled fish and chicken. Highly recommended!

This "Wine Friday" we have upped the ante with a superb lineup of four outstanding wines for you taste and enjoy. Our very own Ian Rottner will be performing live.
I'll start with a "Lagar da Condesa", a white made with Albariño, one of Spain's most beloved grapes. This wine offers notes of citrus and mild oak, flavors of banana, peach and apple, all wrapped in a crisp, refreshing finish. Great with tapas, mediterranean and latin cuisine.
Next is a “Winzerhof Stahl Spark" Scheurebe-Riesling sparkling blend from Germany’s Franken wine appellation. This dry white has aromas of grapefruit balanced with a subtle honey quality that you'll love. Fresh and uncomplicated, perfect on a hot summer night, with asian food, BBQ chicken or a spicy German brat!
Our first red is a "Les Collines de Laure" Northern Rhône Syrah. This medium-bodied red has notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and violet leading to a balanced finish. No oak was used in aging this wine to preserve the primary flavors and aromas. Delicious!
Last is "Manteo", a rich blend of Sonoma County Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Syrah. Each grape contributes a certain character that gives the wine many layers of flavors, texture, and a solid tannin structure, Great with anything off the grill!

I'll start with a lovely “Le Fils des Gras Moutons” from the Muscadet Sevre et Maine appellation in France. This easy-drinking white is dry and fresh, with tangy lemony citrus aromas, delicate creaminess and a minerally finish. A summer classic that you’ll want to have around for the rest of the season and beyond!
Next I’ll pour a superb Bodegas Juan Gil Rose from Spain’s Jumilla appellation This rose has notes of tart red plum, cherry and cranberry, a ripe creamy weight and an orange-peel savory finish. Made with Tempranillo and Syrah from selected vineyards, the Juan Gil offers a truly exceptional rose drinking experience.
My first red is a Melini Terrarossa Chianti from vineyards located in the heart of Tuscany’s Chianti Classico region. This outstanding red has a balanced structure that brings out intense flavors of berries and spices while offering a long, smooth finish. Very food friendly and a great value!
Last is Couturri Vineyard’s RED, a 100% natural blend from Sonoma County’s hamlet of Glen Ellen made by Tony Couturri, the “Guru” of natural wines in our country. This unmanipulated blend is made with Merlot, Syrah, Carignan and Zinfandel from several vintages. A very unique wine you don’t want to miss!!

This "Wine Friday" we are celebrating what summer is all about: sunshine, good times and WINE! Our lineup for this tasting includes four wines that will become your "instant favorites" for the rest of the season and beyond. Rob J will be providing live musical entertainment.
I'll start this tasting with an awesome, Blaufrankish-based Austrian sparkling rose: Tinhof. This delicious bubbly has aromas of fresh strawberries and berries balanced with a refreshing, creamy finish. A summer-perfect sparkling perfect to sip outside with friends on a war summer day...or night!
Next we move to another summer favorite: Marchese di Barolo Gavi Le Lune, a classic dry Italian white named after the Piedmont commune of Gavi, where it's produced. Made with the Cortese grape, this white is light with notes of golden apples and almonds, and scents of chamomile flowers. Great with fish, light pasta, salads and soft cheeses.
My first red is a 2011 Château l’Argenteyre, an outstanding wine from Bordeaux’s iconic Medoc region (Left Bank). Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and 5% Carmenere make up this classic French blend. The wine is medium bodied with chalky tannins, moderate acidity and flavors of blackberry and boysenberry. Superb!
Last but not least is a Mettler Family Cabernet Sauvignon from California’s Lodi Valley. This full-bodied, deeply colored, oaky red tastes like blackberry jam laced with cloves and black pepper - just delicious! Perfect with steak, burgers and anything off the grill.

Memorial Day Weekend is finally here and we are kicking it off with four awesome wines for you to taste and celebrate. The tasting line up includes great bottles from top Spain, California and Italy vintners. Our very own Rob J will be providing live musical entertainment.
The festivities begin with pours of a "Mestres Coupage Premium Rose Cava", one of Spain's best sparkling wines. Aged for 30 months, this fine bubbly displays vibrant flavors of red fruit, floral notes and spices, and good balance of sugars and acidity. Kick-off your holiday party in style with this gem. Mestres has been making wine in Spain since the 1600's. Highly recommended!
Next is a Central Coast "Zwicker" blend of Gewürztraminer, Muscat, and Riesling. Fermented in stainless steel, the wine is clean, pure and refreshing, with light body and notes of elderflower, jasmine, peach, lychee and grapefruit. Great with fish, chicken, turkey burgers and Asian.
My first red is a "Reversanti Barbaresco", a true classic from Italy's iconic Piedmont region. This 100 % NebIollo has remarkable elegance and complexity with aromas of bright red fruit with a hint of mint and rosemary with sweet tannins. You’ll love this outstanding new addition to our Italian selection. 5 stars!!!
My last pour is a "Highflyer Centerline" Napa Valley blend of Merlot, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Sangiovese. This wine over delivers with a focus on fruit and structure. It has aromas of black cherry, chocolate and spicy notes, a full, rich palate and a touch of lush tannins. Perfect for your holiday weekend cookouts with friends and family.

My lineup for Friday is probably the closest you can get to visiting four fabulous countries to taste some of their most delicious wines, without actually leaving Lakeview. This dazzling four + 1 wine selection includes a special pour right at 7 pm that you don't want to miss (limited quantities). Talented soundscape pianist Kevin Koprowski will be playing live.
I'll start with a "Viñedo de los Vientos Estival", a white blend from one of Uruguay's most innovative sustainable wine makers. The"Estival" is a silky, floral blend of Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Moscato Bianco that offers scents of oily citrus, flavors of passion fruit, pineapple, and an almond cream finish. Great with Ramen, fish, sushi and spicy dishes.
Next is the "Castelo Monaci KREOS Rosato" from Puglia, the heart of Italy’s rose production region. Made with the indigenous Negroamaro grape, this elegant rose is dry with bright fruit flavors (rose, strawberry, blueberry) and a floral note on the nose. NEW ARRIVAL!
My first red is a "Chateau Haut Barade" Bordeaux red, a unique, small production red made with Petit Verdot, a grape that usually plays a supporting role in Bordeaux blends. Medium-bodied, deep, dark and inky in the glass, it offers notes of dark fruit and herbs on the nose and a rich, well-structured palate. Petit Verdot shines in this one, check it out!
Last but not least is our new red from Argentina: "Alma Negra M," produced as a blend ofMalbec, Cabernet Franc and Bonarda . Generously oaked, but with balance, it shows elegant notes of aromatic spices and ripe blueberries with violets. The palate is medium to full-bodied, powerful but balanced. An XL blend for powerful food. 91 points by Robert Parker - Outstanding!!

Chateau La Nerthe Chateauneuf du Pape – one of the grand Southern Rhône Valley red wines! Winner of multiple awards and highly rated; this awesome red comes from one of the most historically significant wine regions in the world and takes its name from when Pope Clement V moved to France in 1309 (Limited quantity, available while it lasts) - a gem!!
This complimentary tasting is dedicated to all the wine loving mothers out there celebrating their special day on Sunday. I'll start with pours of a superb Oregon "Benton-Lane" Pinot Gris.This is a fruity, crisp, deeply aromatic white with notes of honeydew, lemon and fig that literally jump out of the glass. Benton-Lane is one of my favorite Oregon winemakers and once you taste their Pinot Gris you'll understand why.
Next is "Seven Terraces" a new Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand's iconic Marlborough wine region. This white displays vibrant fruit aromas of ripe gooseberries, citrus and passion fruit, all balanced by a firm, long finish. Great with seafood, poultry, salads or on its own.
My first red is "The Bluffer" a unique Paso Robles wine made with Valdiguié, a relatively rare grape in California (barely 300 acres growing) but popular in the South of France. The Bluffer is fruity and light bodied with lots of lively, tart berry flavors and a finish that reminds us of Gamay wines (Beaujolais). You'll love this hidden gem!
In honor of all the wine loving mothers out there I will be pouring a "MacPhail" Sonoma Pinot Noir that is possibly one of the best I've ever had. I will uncork and discuss this extraordinary wine at 7 pm. LIMITED AVAILABILITY, I only have 1 bottle of the MacPhail available to taste.
My last is not only a superb Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon but also a great Mother's Day gift. The"Carpe Diem" embodies the essence of the Napa Valley classic Cabernet Sauvignon. It balances juicy red fruit with black licorice, flinty herb and a velvety texture. Medium to full bodied, ripe, delicious!!

My first pour is a "Vilarnau Rose Cava" Reserve from Spain's Catalonia region. Trepat and Pinot Noir grapes give this delicious pink fizz a bright, red currant color and a vibrant, ripe strawberry character. Soft and juicy with refreshing, balanced acidity and beautifully presented in a Gaudi inspired bottle.
Next is an exceptional "Cantarutti" Pinot Grigio from Friulli Venezia, one of Italy's greatest wine regions. This new arrival offers notes of pineapple, melon and peach delivered in a citrusy, crisp style that will put it right on top of your favorite whites list.
My first red takes us to the legendary Minervois wine region in France's Mediterranean coast. The "Campagne de Centeilles" Cinsault offers notes of ripe cherry, medium tannin structure, delicate spice and a warm, bright finish. This wine has had very little exposure in our country and we are proud to be presenting it to you for tasting this Friday.
From France we move to Santa Barbara County to bring you "DIME", a bold, fresh California version of the prestigious Bordeaux blend. Cabernet Franc drives the blend with Merlot in the passenger's seat and Malbec and Petit Verdot riding in the back. Red fruit, velvet and sage shine in this ripe and luscious red - just delicious!

This lineup starts with pours of a "JJ Vincent Cremant de Burgogne", an outstanding sparkling wine from France's iconic Burgundy region. The Vincent bursts with clean, crisp Chardonnay flavors of apple and white fruit. It’s juicy and full-bodied, with floral details and citrus spice. Cremants are a great option to Champagne at a lower price point.
Next is a 2016 Sonoma "Toad Hollow" dry rose made with the Pinot Noir grape. This bone-dry, crisp, salmon-colored beauty has flavors of cherry, strawberry and fresh plum, supported by sturdy acidity. It pairs well with ethnic and vegetarian fare but would be perfect solo as well.

The Aglianico grapes in this wine come from 50-60 year old vines grown in volcanic soil, giving it an earthy, mineraly texture. Delicious!

My first pour is a 2015 Cosumano made with one Sicily's great wine grapes: Insolia. This dry, refreshing white displays flavors of apples and pears, hints of citrus zest and a nutty character. Enjoy it with fish, poultry, light pasta, salads or on its own. If you like Pinot Grigio you'll love this Insolia - a great value!
Next is a "Champalou Cuvee de Fondraux" from France's iconic Vouvray appellation (Loire), home of the much-loved Chenin Blanc grape. This superb white offers a fresh, floral boutique of flavors with hints of pear, minerality, and a light citrus finish. The Champalou is very food friendly and one of my favorite go-to-whites this year.
My first red is a Wildekrans Pinotage that truly brings this often-misunderstood South African wine to the next level. This Wildekrans has aromas of red berries mixed with some blackberries, mulberry and morello cherry. The tannins are soft and the finish lingers with freshness. Great alone or with grilled meats, sausage, spicy foods and well seasoned poultry. Delicious!!
I'll wrap the lineup with a new vintage of our Amancaya Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Argentina. On this Holiday weekend wine takes center stage so I've put together a lineup of four outstanding "share and pair" bottles for you to taste. Rob J will be on the keyboard providing musical entertainment.
Kick off your celebrations in style with my first pour, a "Vilarnau Reseva Cava, Gaudi Edition" Cava that’s a true and tested crowd pleaser. Packaged in an eye-catching bottle, this dry, crisp Spanish bubbly offers aromas of apple, light spice and a lovely lemony finish. Spot on with brunch, dinner or just for a toast to happiness!
Next is a “Chamisal unoaked Chardonnay” from California's Central Coast. This white displays zesty aromas of just-cut apple, lemon-lime soda and a stony quality. Fresh and crisp on the palate, it finishes with kiwi and sea-salt flavors. A great white to pair with casseroles, chicken and fish!
My first red is a "Calista Coast Range" Pinot Noir that's a heavenly match with many Easter favorites. The Calista is a medium-bodied, bright Pinot with aromas of dried cherry, rose petals, and roasted coffee. Cranberry and rhubarb splash the palate to a long, black fruit finish. 89 points - delicious!
My last pour is a superb “South African Tokara Shiraz” (Stellenbosch). This savory red displays notes of blueberries, mulberries, hints of red berry and Chinese Five-Spice. Full-bodied, the Tokara has chalky dry tannins and a white pepper finish. Pairs beautifully with pork tenderloin, roasted poultry and meat dishes. Highly recommended!
After a long, rainy workweek, we all need a little "Wine Therapy", so for this Friday I've put together a tasting lineup that will ease your mind and erase your worries. Outr very own Ian Rottner will be playing live.
I'll roll out the tasting with an "Aloisiushof Element" Gewürztraminer from Pfalz, Germany's second largest wine region. This aromatic, floral white displays aromas of lychee, rose, tangerine and a touch of citrus in the finish. Pairs beautifully with Thai, Chinese, Indian and other spicy cuisines.
Next is a "Hanna" Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc that exemplifies the happy marriage of citrus to exotic fruit flavors found in the better Sauv Blancs of this AVA. The Hanna delivers flavors of ripe lemon, starfruit, cut grass and guava that smoothly glide from nose to finish. Great with flaky fish, poultry, spa cuisine and veggies.
"Angosto Tinto", a unique blend of equal parts of Malbec, Garnacha Tintorera, Syrah, Graciano and Cabernet Franc from Valencia, Spain, is my first red. This wine has aromas of ripe fruit, sweet spices, creamy oak and hints of balsamic. The acidity is quite vibrant and the tannins are ripe and expressive. Great with Mediterranean food, chicken, salads and hard, salty cheeses.
Last but not least is a 2012 "Provenance" Napa Merlot made with grapes from some of the best vineyards in the valley. This fine red wine is complex and elegant with flavors of wild plum, blackberry, cherry, and nuances of dark chocolate - 5 stars, a gem!!!

For this tasting I've put together a lineup of four exceptional pours that’ll take you on a memorable wine journey from Italy to California...first class! Our very own Van and Matt will be providing musical entertainment.
I'll roll out the tasting with a Antinori Bramito Chardonnay from Italy's renowned Umbria wine appellation. This superb white has notes of pineapple, lemon, hazelnut and vanilla, rounded in a toasty minerality and bright acidity. Pairs beautifully with fish, chicken and Italian charcuterie.
Next, I'll be pouring a wine I consider a true Italian gem: a "2011 Travaglini Gattinara Nebbiolo". Presented in a unique decanter-like bottle, this medium-bodied Piedmont red has aromas of mature red berries, dark plum, herbs and balsamic, all of which bond in perfect harmony in the glass. Taste it, take it home and save it for a very special moment. Highly recommended!
From Piedmont on to Tuscany to taste "Rompicollo", an easy-drinking, tasty 60/40 Sangiovese- Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The vines are planted in volcanic soil rich in "tuffo" (tuff), resulting in a medium-full red rich in fruit, sweet spice and herbal notes. Perfect "go to" Italian for pasta with red meat sauce, pizza, chicken and sharp cheeses.
The lineup wraps in California's Lodi Valley with an outstanding Mettler Cabernet Sauvignon produced in the robust style of the Zinfandel we carry from this great winemaking family. Big, bold, well balanced and smooth, the Mettler is a truly delicious wine. Steak, burgers, roasts and all beef dishes are this wine's best friends.

Spring is finally here and this Friday we are celebrating with a wine tasting that'll make your taste buds bloom and your smile shine. Vocalist/Guitarist Ian Rottner will bring it all together filling the house with his great live music.
I'll roll out the lineup with a Brut Burckel Jung Cremant d'Alsace Rose, a spring perfect French sparkler you'll instantly fall in love with. 100% Pinot Noir, this bubbly has aromas of red berries and flowers, plus a dry, crisp, elegant texture and lots of thin bubbles. A winner!
Next we'll taste a Pinot Noir from the same producer and region as the rose to compare how the grape expresses itself in sparkling and still wines. This Burckel Jung Pinot Noir is uniquely light, dry and fruity, and while it shares some traits with its sparkling counterpart, it also shows a great deal of personality. Pairs with white meats, fish, sushi, ramen and soft cheeses.
Next up is one of my favorite California Chardonnays: "The Arsonist". Lush and smooth, with a rich, fruity texture and lots of depth, this oaky, buttery chard is truly exceptional.
Pairs beautifully with crab cakes, creamy dishes, squash and Cheddar cheese.
My second red is a "Guado al Tasso il Bruciato", an outstanding Super Tuscan I just added to our Italian inventory. This tasty blend has notes of sweet spices, toasted coffee, ripe red berries and a long finish. Enjoy it with prime rib, roasts, lasagna and wood-oven pizza. Highly recommended!
