Now that Memorial Day is gone let's have some real summer wine fun!
We'll start this tasting with one of the most celebrated cocktails in history: the Bellini.
Made with white peaches and Prosecco, the Bellini was invented at the famous Harry's bar in Venice, Italy, the preferred hangout of visiting writers and movie stars in the 40s and 50s. The history of this cocktail is pretty cool, Google the name, you'll see!
Next, we'll pour one of our favorite Roses wines this season: Billette Bouquet de Provence. This is one of France's number one roses and you'll know why when you taste it. Fresh, crisp and elegant, Billette has just the right balance of fruit, crispness and acidity. Sip it outside while enjoying the summer days with family and friends!
Our first red is Protea, a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend that truly embodies the character of the wines from South Africa's famed Western Cape wine region. This red has hints of blackberry, espresso and spice, making it quite unique among the many wines available from that part of the world. Check out the “upcyclable”, vegetable-ink painted bottle...very nice.
We'll top things off with a medium bodied Argentinean Malbec that has been described by many as "summer perfect". Tinto Negro is an easygoing, unpretentious red that pairs with just about anything from the grill. A great value wine that travels well to Millennium Park Concerts, Movies in the Park and many other Chicago outdoor venues...salud!
Musical entertainment will be provided by our very own Rob J on the keyboard.
