Yes, it's January in Chicago but do not despair, we are here to keep you warm with a great lineup of four wines to taste PLUS live music by our very own Van Isaacson and Matt Gordon.
I'll start this "First Taste" of the year with a Sauvignon Blanc - Viognier blend from Domaine L'Arjolle , a family estate in the South of France known for quality winemaking. This is a medium-bodied white with a fleshy texture and flavors of citrus, lemon and apple. Enjoy it with poultry dishes, salads, sautéed veggies or on its own.
The first red is a 2011 Chateau Jeanine Becot Cotes de Castillon Bordeaux, a French classic that displays notes of crushed ripe berries, a high concentration and richness. This is a medium to full bodied, dry, earthy wine that pairs naturally with French cuisine, stews, roasts and winter casseroles.
My next pour is a delicious Toad Hollow Merlot from Sonoma County, California. This full red has notes of cranberry, currant, black cherry and baked apple. The Toad Hollow pairs with lamb, steak, blue cheese or your favorite pasta with red sauce. A staff favorite!
Last but not least is UNO, an Argentinian Malbec that will definitely keep you smiling through the cold months of the year. This smooth red has notes of cedar and vanilla-spice, along with abundant dark fruit flavors. Enjoy it with red meat entrees, grilled vegetables and firm cheeses.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
