Summer and wine make a great pairing, from refreshing roses to crisp whites and lighter reds, there is always a prefect one for every occasion. This Friday I’ll be pouring four great summer wines, including two from one of the hottest wine producing regions (and vacation spots) in the Mediterranean. Our very own Ian Rottner will be playing live.
I’ll start with the “Arrubieddu” a unique, small production Rose from the island of Sardinia (Italy). Made with the indigenous Monica grape, this aromatic rose has a dark garnet with hints of red fruit and a ripe, bright texture. Pairs beautifully with pizza and any dish with tomato-based sauces.
Next is a Russian River Valley (California) “Hana” Sauvignon Blanc, a superb white with aromas of fig, guava and nectarine, flavors of lemon and grapefruit and a hint of ginger. The Hana has medium acidity and a balanced, smooth finish. Great with appetizers, fish, grilled chicken and salads.
San Bernardino” - my first red - is also from Sardinia and a great example of the versatility of the Monica grape. This pinot-noir like red is packed with flavors of blackberry delivered in a dry, mellow style perfect for this time of the year. A perfect match with roasted red meats, burgers, grilled tuna and salty cheeses.
My second red is a "Toad Hollow” Merlot from Sonoma County, California. This full-bodied red has aromas of blueberry, a plush texture and a dark fruit palate finished with a pop of pomegranate and cranberry fruit. Great with BBQ ribs or chicken, brats and anything off the grill, Outstanding!!!
See you all on Friday!
